MetaLab Marketing & Communications

In my role as content designer, I helped to spark a sea change in both the culture at MetaLab as well as how it's perceived by potential clients and employees. I evolved the voice and content strategy in a way that resonates with all audiences, leading to a number of new hires and business leads for the company.

Black Lives Matter Web Takeover

Actions and impact speak louder than words. I designed a web takeover in response to the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor that would encourage people to donate to and learn about the Black Lives Matter movement. The simplicity of the MetaLab site lent itself well to centering Black voices and Black-led organizations, putting product design (and profits) on the back burner.

I led the strategic vision and content for MetaLab.co/Belonging, a dedicated webpage detailing the company’s commitments to antiracism and DEI. By publicly sharing the organization’s demographic statistics and investments in change, we set the tone for more transparency, accountability, and action.

My team and I worked with Nappy.co to produce a collection of free, high-res product mockups featuring hands of all shades, shapes, and sizes to improve BIPOC representation in product design and beyond. We also created a mockup generator plugin for Figma to democratize access to greater representation.

Content Style Guide

MetaLab’s been the cool kid on the product design block since it help put Slack on the map, but the company’s personality had never been officially documented. Gathering input from executive leadership and other key stakeholders, I created a content style guide and resource hub for MetaLab’s voice and tone.

Blogs & Case Studies

Over 50% of all goal completions on the MetaLab site are from visitors who have consumed my content, with a bounce rate of approximately half that of the other content on the site. The voice, tone, and perspective I bring to my writing has catalyzed conversations about mental health and empathy, not just in product design but in workplace culture in general.

The Future Has Feelings

How “human” is human-centered design? I open up about vulnerability, mental health, and embracing the messiness.

What People Are Saying

“Our Belonging page has been such an amazing conversation piece with candidates. Since it launched, there’s been a number of folx I’ve spoken to bring it up as a reason they wanted to apply to here. The openness and clarity mixed with honest communication is landing so well with candidates. Major kudos!”

“Fuck you’re good.”

“I just spoke with a lovely candidate who’s passionate about D&I and mentioned she’s been the only person of colour in her last few roles in tech. She called out two of your pieces as really driving home that she belonged here. Thank you for repping us so well!”
